Vicky Kuykendall enjoys painting a wide variety of subject matter and works in several mediums. But in every painting she strives to evoke a mood and/or capture a spirit or personality. As well as painting subjects she loves, Vicky also does commissioned portraits of animals.
"I love color," Kuykendall says. "In fact, I love everything that has to do with art. As a child I loved to go to the movies and watch Walt Disney's paintbrush magically paint a picture at the beginning of the cartoon."
Although primarily a studio painter, Kuykendall does field research, photography and sketches outdoors.
Kuykendall grew up in New Mexico, which probably explains her love of the Southwest. She now resides in a small, rural town outside of Dallas, Texas.
She has studied in classes and workshops under nationally known artists. Her work has won ribbons and awards and hangs in private and public collections across Texas, Louisiana, Kentucky and New Mexico.
Vicky Kuykendall served as President of the Pastel Society of the Southwest in 1995.
