Prothonotary Warbler 17"x17"Wildlife, Mixed Media The Prothonotary Warbler is the only eastern warbler to nest in tree cavities, preferring a site over the water or very close to it. The male builds "dummy" nests around his territory, while the female builds the real one, stuffing it with moss, leaves and bits of bark. The male has a bright yellow head and under parts. The back is olive and the wings and tail are Blue gray. They breed from the Great Lakes area to the Gulf States and inhabit East Texas westward to Denton, Fort Worth and Houston.
