Tufted Titmouse 20"x22"Wildlife, Mixed Media The Black Crested Titmouse inhabit West Texas from the middle of the Panhandle south to the Rio Grande Valley. The boisterous, friendly little bundle of energy, is usually heard before it is seen. "peter-peter-peter" it scolds any intruder to it's territory. The word titmouse is derived from the Old Icelandic "titr", meaning something small, and mouse, a corruption of the Old English "mase" small bird. This Black Crested Tufted Titmouse is shown perched on the wild flower "Horsemint" also known as Monarda Punctata.
