American Goldfinch 18"x26"Wildlife, Mixed Media Lured to sunflower or thistle seed, they gorge themselves and fill the air with their calls "per-chic-o-ree" or "just look at me". Most Texans know the American Goldfinch only as a winter resident. It breeds across southern Canada and in all but the most southerly portions of the United States. It's selection as the state bird of New Jersey, Washington, and Iowa illustrates the widespread popularity of the beautiful little finch. The breeding plumage of the male is a glowing bright yellow, contrasted sharply by black wings and tail. He is the only small yellow bird with black wings.
